| Absolut Warhola (NTSC Region 1) |
| In this witty, affectionate and slyly humorous film, German documentary
filmmaker Stanislaw Mucha traces American pop artist Andy Warhol's family
roots back to two unassuming villages in Eastern Europe. There, he finds
Warhol’s eccentric relatives, all of whom treat their famous hometown boy
with pride, though no one actually knew him or can comprehend his art. They
knew so little of him that when Warhol sent some of his original works of art
to his relatives, they used them as clothing or toys for their children. With
a gentle humanistic touch, the film swings from the art of Warhol to his
relatives—all characters in their own right—and their 'art' of
coming to grips with life and the strange outside world which seems so far
away. The healthy attitude these villagers have towards life, art and the
looming modern world makes Absolut Warhola a buoyant documentary.
