Los Angeles, early 1980s: “No Future” is more than just a slogan for “The Rejected”, a group of young squatters. The former suburban paradise of the US of A has long since turned into its opposite for the group around the brothers Evan and Ethan and many others: the precarious circumstances from which they come and the not only emotionally absent parents give them every hope for a better life and robbed of all trust in society and its authorities. Her elixir of life: the punk concerts of bands like DI, TSOL and The Vandals. In their hopelessness, the Outsiders direct their destructiveness against everything and everyone outside their group and thus attract the hatred of the “decent” citizens…

In the case of SUBURBIA, “Inspired by true events” is not just a cliché. Director Penelope Spheeris (THE BOYS NEXT DOOR, WAYNE’S WORLD) not only portrayed the Californian suburban punks in her cult documentary THE DECLINE OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION, but also cast SUBURBIA with them without further ado. No empty phrases either: SUBURBIA is a cult film – somewhere between social drama and exploitation [1] film (co-production: B-film legend Roger Corman) – which has a long-lasting effect [1] because of its authenticity and rawness.
